Mackay family could lose $500k after man skips court

RELATIVES of Mackay man Markis Scott Turner may lose more than $500,000 worth of surety after Mr Turner failed to turn up at supreme court this morning.

Mr Turner is facing charges over an alleged $20 million cocaine importation operation and was ordered to turn up at Brisbane Supreme Court at 9.30 this morning.

But there was no sign of him.

Relatives, including his mother Elizabeth Turner, could lose the surety they promised to pay as part of Mr Turner's bail conditions.

They will fight to keep the money at a hearing to be held next year.

It has been previously reported that Ms Turner believes her son has killed himself.

There is also speculation the man's wife and children have moved to Poland.

The case was adjourned until March next year.
