Mammoth machine is complete

WHEN Simplicity first started up in Dalby, the typical air seeder was 1000 litres.

Last week, the company completed their largest machine ever: an air seeder with a 30, 000 litre capacity.

General manager Troy Law said the machine, which was built entirely on-site, is one of the largest of its kind in Australia.

"There are a lot of competitive products in the market, and we very much compete in an international market place,” he said.

"This one isn't the biggest in the world, but it's pretty significant and it is the biggest for us.”

"If we were to compare this machine to one 10 or 15 years ago, there's lots of features on it which are new and different from what we've done in the past.”

The air seeder is a trail-between, meaning it connects to the back of a tractor.

It is first in a series, with the next set to be a 'trail-behind'.

Mr Law said the process of creating the massive machine had first began a number of years ago.

"A lot of people have been involved,” he said.

"We've been looking at doing this size machine for about five years. There's been a lot of time producing proposals through drawing, modelling and concept design and other research; there's a whole range of things.”

"The reason equipment has got bigger is because customers are trying to do more work with less people.”

"In small town locations across Australia, your access to people and workers is less, so five people are trying to do what ten people used to, so to do that they need bigger equipment.”
