Man armed with hammer threatened staffer for cash, cigs

A MAN armed with a hammer threatened staff at a highway convenience store, demanding cash and cigarettes.

Around 3am, a man armed with a hammer entered a convenience store on the Gold Coast Highway and approached the store attendant.

He made demands for money and cigarettes, and the attendant complied..

The man then walked around the counter and took a number of scratchies before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police attended and conducted a search, locating a man and woman on the beach a short time later.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
