Man bashed with bats at Bondi Beach

A GANG of up to three men have bashed a 34-year-old man with bats at Bondi Beach in broad daylight.

Police were called to a grass area on the northern end of the beach after a young man was viciously beaten about 1.10pm.

The victim was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital with head injuries in a stable condition.

A witness said he heard people yelling at the beach so he stood up to see what was happening.

"I saw the guy who got hit kinda fall over and stumble a bit," the Bondi resident said.

"I saw the guy with a bat, or a metal rod or something, hit him over the head.

"Then three guys ran up the steps ... they were just wearing board shorts and they were all shirtless.

"They were pretty tall - caucasian."

The witness said shocked beachgoers rushed to help the 34-year-old whose head was bleeding heavily.

"Most people were grabbing their towels and used that to stop the bleeding a bit," he said.

"His whole face was covered in blood and his hair as well.

"A few guys seemed to be chasing after them to try and catch them before the police came."

An unconfirmed report from another witness said the bats had nails on the end.

"Seriously what is going on in the world!?," she posted on social media.

"Life must be pretty bad if that is your idea of a good thing to do on a sunny Thursday."

Police said they had not caught the attackers yet.

Investigations are continuing.
