Hoax bomb was jerry can with mobile phone attached

A MAN accused of a bomb hoax that shut down a large section of Eastern Heights has had his matter mentioned in court.

Daniel Carl Rigg, 28, faced Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday where his matter was adjourned until June 2.

Police will allege they discovered a jerry can with a mobile phone, wires and other items attached to it at a Cemetery Rd address resulting in an emergent declaration being made.

The bomb squad was called in to investigate the device further, and it was confirmed as a hoax several hours later.
