Man undergoes surgery for gunshot wound in leg

POLICE are investigating after a Western Downs man called paramedics with reports he had suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

Detectives were notified of the incident shortly before midnight Sunday after a man called 000 reporting the wound and requesting an ambulance.

South-West District Detective Inspector Paul Hart said the man was injured in the incident on a rural property at Kumbarilla near Tara on the Western Downs.

The man was initially taken to Tara Hospital before being transferred to Toowoomba for treatment.

"He has undergone surgery for a non-life-threatening injury," Det. Insp. Hart said.

"At this stage the circumstances around how he was shot are unclear.

"Investigations are ongoing."

A Toowoomba Hospital spokesman said the man remained in a stable condition.
