Massive discount for favoured developers

DEVELOPERS may receive a 40% refund on planning application fees from council, starting July 1.

Council adopted the policy of refunding 40% of application fees, provided the pre-lodgement meeting ended with an “agreed positive outcome” at its recent 2016/17 Budget meeting.

The fee refund program is part of council’s refreshed approach to “reduce red tape” by helping developers fast-track their applications, according to Western Downs Regional Council mayor Paul McVeigh.

“With the Western Downs well-located to take advantage of major road, rail and airport infrastructure, Council’s new development incentives are an added bonus attracting industries to set up shop in our region,” Cr McVeigh said.

Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said that while the Regional Planning Scheme is on its way, now is the right time to give development a boost in the right direction.

“Supporting economic growth, but encouraging the right development in the right areas, is key to the future sustainability of our region. That’s why council has introduced the fee refund program to reward good development by refunding application fees to eligible developers by 40%,” Cr Smith said.

“Provided there is a pre-lodgement meeting with council with an agreed positive outcome, no request for information lodged and no appeal of a council decision, developers and our communities will reap the benefits.

“Western Downs means business.”
