Messi hat-trick ruins Guardiola's return to Barcelona

FOOTBALL: Pep Guardiola's return to Barcelona has been ruined by Lionel Messi.

Messi scored a hat-trick as the Spanish club put Manchester City to the sword, winning 4-0 to keep up its 100% record in the Champions League this season.

Former Barca coach Guardiola watched on as the Argentine superstar capitalised on some City errors make it 15 goals in 13 games against English sides in the competition.

Brazilian Neymar scored a fourth and also missed a penalty against City, who also had goalkeeper Claudio Bravo sent off for handling outside his area.

Arsenal enjoyed a good night at the Emirates with a 6-0 win over Ludogorets of Bulgaria, taking it top of Group A on goal difference from Paris St-Germain, which defeated Basel 3-0.

Celtic went down 2-0 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach.
