Miles Hospital primary health hub opened

THREE permanent on-site doctors will be the main drawcard at the new state-of-the-art primary health hub that officially opened at Miles Hospital on Friday.

The $2.6million hospital upgrade has also provided new offices for staff, as well as accommodation for more than 50 visitors each week.

The new accommodation has already been hailed a success, with director of nursing Erica Fletcher saying the new rooms were attracting praise from visitors.

"It has been fully booked from the start,” Ms Fletcher said.

"A real benefit is that some of the biggest users of accommodation are students and it's become a drawcard for the TAFE and university students considering working out here in the country.

"They know they will be well looked after, and that is attracting people to Miles Hospital.”

Ms Fletcher highlighted the dedicated spaces in the new facility for essential health services as an important benefit of the upgrade.

"It's been a huge plus for the community because we now have a physiotherapist and child health room and large conference room on site,” she said.

"The conference room has the digital resources to undertake education via video conference, which means that staff will not need to travel as much, which is good for safety.

"We feel very fortunate that Miles Hospital has been the recipient of these great new facilities.”

State Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Cameron Dick said the new facility would be a great benefit to Miles residents and the surrounding community.

"The accommodation features eight modern units that will be used by clinicians visiting Miles to provide a range of health services, while the primary health hub is equipped with a large conference room to facilitate training, education and meetings,” Mr Dick said.

"It's great news for the local community and local staff to have these newly built state-of-the-art facilities.

"I commend the team for all the planning efforts put in to bring these important community projects to fruition.”
