MONSTER: Shocking domestic violence thug ready to walk free

A man who subjected his partner to a horrifying domestic violence attack that lasted two days will walk free from jail tomorrow.

The Townsville man is charged with 12 domestic violence offences including assault occasioning bodily harm, attempting to pervert justice, dangerous operation of a vehicle, armed robbery and other charges.

His brutal attack began when he walked into the home the woman was house-sitting, called her a "maggot" and demanded her car keys on September 29, 2018.

He punched the back of her head and stole her keys and $40 while she was blacked out.

Prosecutor Sally Dreghorn told the court the man returned the car the next day and continued the attack.

The woman was packing her belongings into the vehicle and had sat in the driver's seat when the man got inside and told her to "get the f..k out".

He threatened to kill her and her cat after he found out she had dumped his belongings.

"The defendant was driving erratically, even hitting a pole at one point," Ms Dreghorn said.

Both fought over the woman's phone while she begged him to stop the car.

Once the car stopped, the woman got out. The man took control of the vehicle and accelerated, hitting her with the side of the car.

The man was arrested after visiting her at the hospital.

Once behind bars he continued to reach out to the woman, added her to the prison phone list under a false name and called her more than 20 times.

The court heard his actions left the woman afraid of retribution and unable to enjoy life.

He has previously been before the court for a domestic violence attack against another woman.

Defence lawyer Wayne Pennell told the court the man's life spiralled out of control after he became addicted to ice at 18.

The man has been behind bars since his arrest two years ago. Judge Gregory Lynham rebuked the man's actions saying it was serious and cowardly to attack a domestic partner. He gave the man a head sentence of three years with parole release on Sunday.
