More than $1.5mil of cannabis found in Tweed/Byron region

POLICE have seized more than $1.5 million worth of cannabis plants in the Tweed/Byron area.

Police from the State Crime Command's Drug Squad established Strike Force Hyperion to investigate cannabis cultivation in NSW.

During a four day operation which started on Monday, police from the Strike Force, together with officers from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command and PolAir, searched areas in the vicinity of Main Arm, Skyline Road, Palmwoods, Mullumbimby and Koonyum Ranges.

During the operation a total of 759 plants were seized with a total potential street value of $1,518,000, police said.

The plants will be destroyed today and police are urging anyone with information in relation to these incidents to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page.
