Motorists warned to keep safe on roads
WORK Christmas parties, family outings and holidays out of town are on the agenda for many Dalby residents this festive season, which often leads to a higher degree of danger on roads.
With drink and drug driving a growing concern, particularly at this time of the year, Dalby police have urged motorists to remain cautious whenever they are behind the wheel.
Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney said driver awareness during the Christmas period was crucial for safety on roads.
"If you're going out somewhere, always have more than one plan on how to get home to ensure you don't make a poor decision and drive under the influence,” Sen-Sgt Tierney said.
"We generally see an increase in driving offences over the summer holidays as there are so many people on the roads, so basic safety measures such as always wearing a seat belt, staying off your mobile phone while driving and sticking to the speed limit are also vital.
"We have a greater police presence during this period so, hopefully, we'll be able to stamp out any dangerous driving that occurs.”
Sen-Sgt Tierney also took time to wish residents a merry Christmas and happy new year, and, most importantly, a safe holiday.
