Nathan Buckley buoyed by healthy Collingwood squad

COLLINGWOOD has the healthiest list in coach Nathan Buckley's tenure as Daniel Wells prepares to play VFL this weekend.

The recruit has battled injuries all summer but is fit and progressing on a "graduated program".

"We're starting to build and there's more competition for spots week on week," Buckley said.

"We'll go in with 43 fit players out of 45 this week, so a tick to the conditioning staff and a quandary for the match committee, which is a good problem to have.

"(Wells) has been on a really strong graduated program and the last couple of weeks have been a step up again. He'll play VFL this week and in the view to getting him back to full match fitness as quickly as possible.

"We'll have a call to make beyond that, but that will come down to performance of players in the senior side in the next week or two, his individual performance and clearly his fitness. It's been really strong gains over the last month and we've been really encouraged by it and we look forward to taking the next step."

Jordan De Goey is also likely to feature at VFL level for the first time since breaking his hand, where he will have to stay for at least three weeks due to a club-imposed suspension.

Buckley also said:

- Jamie Elliott has to pull up well from VFL duties before he will be considered for senior selection.

- The team has left its circuit-breaking win over Sydney behind as it looks towards St Kilda.

- He wants the laws of the game committee to stop tinkering with the rules, saying he wants to see laws in place for three years and then considered before there are any alterations to interpretations.

- The "romance" of a Josh Daicos appearance for Collingwood on Anzac Day should be "parked" for the meantime, with Buckley saying that while he is progressing well, he is still a little while off playing.
