NEW BUSINESS: Shop franchise expanding into Dalby

FRESH haircuts and hot towels will become the norm for Dalby residents with a new barber shop opening at Dalby Shoppingworld.

Abbott’s Barber Shop will be operating out of their new shop front next to Woolworths in a matter of weeks, and is currently on the lookout for employees.

Founder John Abbott said his new shop be family-oriented, and will cater to all men’s haircuts, as well as babies and toddlers.

“We’ve got a terrific spot right next to the entrance of Woolworths, with up to 30,000 customers walking into the supermarket each week,” he said.

“It’ll give us great exposure.”

Originally born in Monto, Mr Abbott operates four Abbott’s Barber Shop franchises across Queensland, with one in Aspley and three in the South Burnett.

Mr Abbott took over his father’s shop in Aspley more than 20 years ago, before deciding to retire in Nanango in 2015.

After noticing a distinct absence of barbers in his town, Mr Abbott came out of retirement, and is now expanding into the Western Downs.

“We’re up to speed with all of the modern styles and beard trends,” he said.

“We’ll be running a traditional barber shop, with everything you might need in a barber.”

Mr Abbott said he is on the lookout for up to four new employees, as he’s expecting to fit out four barbers chairs to open before Christmas.

“We know that Dalby has some talented people out there, and we’re looking for anyone who has the experience,” he said.

“They could’ve trained as a barber, or hairdressers who are looking to become barbers.

“At the moment we’re looking for between two to three people, but that could go up to four depending on our popularity.”

He said he’s really looking forward to opening in Dalby, and bringing traditional barber shops back to the bush.

“We’ve done it in Nanango, Murgon, Kingaroy, and with our flagship store in Brisbane,” Mr Abbott said.

“But now we’re keen to get started in Dalby.”
