No internet or visits to Fraser Coast for accused

A FRASER Coast man has been forbidden to enter Maryborough and Hervey Bay CBDs or use the internet after he was allegedly seen with two underage girls.

Jay Bedford, 29, was subject to strict conditions under child protection laws including reporting any contact he had had with children.

But last year police believe he spent time with two girls, aged 15 and 16 he had met at a Maryborough shopping centre and did not declare this.

Mr Bedford has been charged with assault, wilful damage and three counts of not complying with child protection laws; all which stem from incidents in August and October last year.

He has been in jail since last November, for about 300 days, and applied to be released on bail at Brisbane Supreme Court.

On Monday this was granted but with strict conditions.

Justice Peter Flanagan said Mr Bedford's charges of not reporting contact with children were of "utmost concern".

"In early October 2014 (Mr Bedford) met the girls at Station Square shopping centre at Maryborough where they became quote "friends" unquote," he said.

Justice Flanagan said Mr Bedford was aware of reporting conditions but allegedly did not comply.

He also said Mr Bedford's wilful damage charge stemmed from an incident in October last year when Mr Bedford, the two teenage girls and another man allegedly drove to a house and the men shook a front screen door before throwing a concrete planter through a glass window.

Justice Flanagan said Bedford had been in jail on remand since November last year, which totalled almost 300 days.

He also said conditions could be imposed to ensure he was not at risk of re-offending.

These included prohibiting Mr Bedford from using a device which uses the internet, including a mobile phone, and not visit Hervey Bay central business district or Maryborough and Bribie Island townships unless it was for legal purposes.

Mr Bedford's case will be next mentioned at Maryborough in October.
