Notorious ‘cretin’ puts kids at risk
A NOTORIOUS teenage hoon on a trail bike has been branded a "cretin" by a Gold Coast Coast City councillor after he put the safety of youngsters at risk.
Nerang and Pacific Pines-based councillor Peter Young on his official Facebook page posted photographs of the bike rider as he was caught riding illegally around the Gold Coast Cycle Centre at Nerang.
"If you see this cretin or his mates riding illegally at the Gold Coast Cycle Centre at Nerang, please report it immediately to the Police on 55038999," Cr Young wrote.
"Or if you are unfortunate enough to know him or where he lives, Nerang Police would love to hear from you. Scaring or endangering children and other cycle riders on a dedicated cycle facility wins you no points you fool. The bike carries the number 100 which appears to be the percentage of mental deficiency of the rider."
Residents shortly after gave the name of the rider to Cr Young.
He told The Bulletin he intends to contact police late this afternoon. "I've got his details," Cr Young said.
Several residents confirmed the teenager was causing safety issues around the roads, parks and velodrome. Some had spotted him at nearby Pacific Pines.
"These photos would have been taken yesterday and yes, the idiot tore around the velodrome when there were small children and cyclists on it," a resident wrote.
"A police car did go past at the time, heading north along Connection Rd.
"I don't understand how they couldn't see or hear him."
Some residents asked why the bike rider was not using trails and whether council had closed down tracks.
Cr Young told them: "Motorcycle clubs exist and new tracks cost ratepayers many millions.
"I expect this guy just couldn't give a stuff about getting his bike legally to a motorcycle park let alone be a member of one."
A resident in another post wrote, "This A-hole has been noisily riding up and down my street all weekend.
"I was going to throw a rotten orange at him but he got away too quickly."
Police have been in pursuit of the bike rider who has managed to escape on hinterland roads.
