OLSCC students show their charitable side
OUR Lady of the Southern Cross College's Mini Vinnies group has raised more than $1000 for the St Vincent de Paul Society.
The group raised a total of $1111.84, which was donated to members of the St Joseph's Dalby Conference at a recent school assembly.
The Mini Vinnies group, comprised of Year 5 and 6 students, held an Easter egg raffle in Term 1, selling raffles tickets to raise the funds. The eggs were donated by families and their generosity led to 97 hampers as prizes in the raffle.
The Mini Vinnies Group students said the experience of raising funds for the local St Vincent de Paul Society was worthwhile.
"I liked wrapping up the Easter egg presents and handing them out and meeting the Vinnies people,” Tiffany Ham said.
"I liked it because we raised a lot of money and helped people in need.”
Fellow student Hayden Gowlett was impressed by how well supported the raffle was.
"We sold raffle tickets to people who wanted to win a prize,” he said.
"I enjoyed the fact that so many people bought raffle tickets and we raised a lot of money for Mini Vinnies.”
A member of the Vinnies state body said the money would be put to good use in the Dalby area.
