Deadly crash shuts down Harbour Bridge
One woman is dead, two men have head injuries and a second woman is trapped in her car after a serious crash that closed the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Thursday morning.
A Mitsubishi Mirage travelling north and a BMW travelling south collided at the Millers Point entrance to the bridge just before 7.15am with people from both cars injured in the crash.
The female driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene and her two passengers, both men believed to be in their 30s, suffered head injuries.
Both have been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and one is reported to be in a serious condition.
The second driver, a woman in her 40s, remains trapped in her BMW and Police Rescue are working to release her.
The Bridge was closed in both directions to allow a rescue helicopter to land and remains closed, apart from one southbound lane leading to the Cahill Expressway.
Passing cars are blocked from seeing the crash scene by a line of fire trucks and are moving slowly in what appears to be an attempt to start clearing the standstill traffic.
Shocking footage from the scene shows emergency workers sorting through the widespread wreckage as peak hour traffic is banked up for kilometres in both directions.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area or use the Harbour Tunnel instead, and buses heading to the city are now terminating at North Sydney, with passengers encouraged to finish their journey on the train.

Police Association NSW secretary Pat Gooley, who is stuck in the traffic himself, told 2GB that drivers in the queue needed to stop making U-turns to get themselves out of traffic.
"What we do have is people doing U-turns, and we have emergency services trying to make their way on the other side of the road," he said.
"People have to stop doing these U-turns, it's too dangerous."
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told NCA NewsWire that three people were trapped and their condition was unknown.
"Fire and Rescue are working with all services to extricate those people," he said.
