One Direction take a serious stance on climate change

Still from Youtube video

THEY'RE hounded by die-hard fans wherever they go, hanging off their every word and move.

Now, British boy band One Direction hopes to use that force for good, launching a new social media campaign.

Action 1D is a new online campaign, with which they hope to encourage their fans to put pressure on world leaders about issues like climate change and poverty.

In a video posted to their YouTube channel, the band members encourage their fans to post content on social media and say what they want the future to look like.

Band member Louis Tomlinson said to fans: "Now is the time for us all to have our say, to take action and to raise our voices to show that we care."

Niall Horan added: "Time and time again, you've shown us how incredible, passionate and creative you all are, and now we want to ask you to come together with us and use that to make a change for good."

Fans can go to action1d.onedirectionmusic.com to watch the video and fill in one of the actions listed there. The group will be adding more videos throughout the month to further encourage fans

The aim is to influence world leaders before the UN Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in September and the World Climate Summit in December.

Nearly 17,000 'actions', made up of photos, videos and tweets from fans, have been posted already.
