THREE men have been charged with arson after fire destroyed five boats at a Gold Coast marina earlier this month.

The blaze tore through the Hope Harbour Marina at Coomera on June 2 after a firebomb was allegedly hurled at one vessel.

Police said it would be alleged a number of people were seen throwing petrol onto one of the boats before setting it alight.

"There were five boats in total sustaining various degrees of fire and heat damage," a police spokesman said.

"No one was injured during the incident."

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said it would be alleged that one of the three men charged was the owner of one of the boats which sank after catching fire.

One of those charged had suffered 'significant burns' and sought medical treatment, which led police to the alleged offenders.

"It'll be alleged that there has been communication between this group and as a result, two male persons have attended the marina and taken steps to set fire to that particular vessel," Det Insp Aheard said.

"As a result, a number of other vessels have also caught fire and been destroyed."

A 33-year-old man from Dugandan has been charged with three counts of arson and one count each of attempted fraud, enter premises with intent to commit an indictable offence and endanger property by fire.

He is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 26.

Two men aged 21 and 25 years from Fernvale have both been charged with three counts of arson and one count each of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and endanger property by fire.

Both men will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on August 10.
