Rescuers save pair after two days stranded in waterhole
TWO 20-year-old bushwalkers were winched to safety on Saturday afternoon after being stranded for two days at Rainbow Falls in the Blackdown Tablelands.
A Mackay man and Gracemere woman were swimming in a well-known waterhole, known as Horse Shoe Lookout, when they became isolated and unable to get back to the safety of others and their vehicle.
Authorities confirmed the pair became isolated when they climbed down a rope to a lower swimming hole and were unable climb back up as they were too fatigued.
RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service winched the pair about 2pm on Saturday.
According to the rescue team the winch had to be conducted at a higher than normal height due to the nature of the landscape.
The pair, who were reported to be "extremely happy" to be on board the helicopter and in the safe hands of the crew, were transported to Rockhampton Hospital and were let home Saturday night uninjured.
