Police are investigating after at least one person was killed in the collision in Keilor Park this morning.

Emergency services were called to the Calder Fwy, near Milleara Rd, about 8.05am after the Toll petrol tanker travelling outbound collided with a number of vehicles.

It's believed the truck was in the centre lane on the freeway when a car has pulled in front of it, causing the truck to swerve and the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Six others were transported to hospital with injuries including the truck driver.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating.

Due to a significant amount of fuel still in the truck and on the road, police will need to wait for MFB crews to clear the scene before they can use equipment to cut into the crushed vehicle and further investigate.

At this time it is expected to take until at least 3pm.

The road is also expected to be closed for several hours, including through afternoon peak, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
