Pogba plays key role in United's new record signing

THE 2016 arrival of French international Paul Pogba at Manchester United has proved to be instrumental in the Red Devils signing of Romelu Lukaku.

Speaking at UCLA's Drake Stadium, where United are training for their pre-season USA tour, Lukaku said he was inspired by Pogba's arrival at Old Trafford last year.

The Belgian striker shares the same agent as Pogba and the pair are good friends, with both holidaying together in Beverly Hills last week before Lukaku's transfer was made official.

"Last season when he signed for United, to have witnessed that, it really triggered something in my brain and I knew that if one day I had the chance to sign then I would not say no," Lukaku said.

United signed Lukaku from Everton for £75 million ($127m), with the 24-year-old reportedly pocketing more than £200,000-a-week ($340k-a-week).

The deal is a record between English clubs and Lukaku could feature for his new team as soon as this weekend against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
