THE driver of a stolen car seen speeding on a rural road west of Toowoomba is wanted by police who have made a public appeal for information.

Officers patrolling Toowoomba Cecil Plains Rd at Wellcamp about 1.15pm on Friday spotted the matte black Mitsubishi Mirage or similar type vehicle speeding along the road east of Wellcamp airport.

Police, travelling in the opposite direction, turned around and activated the lights and sirens in an effort to stop the vehicle which fled the area.

The vehicle's front registration plate 710TSN was matched to a vehicle reported stolen from another car in Dalby on April 8.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
