Police officer charged for partying with a taser

A POLICE officer who allegedly used his work-issue taser while at a party has been charged over the incident.

The 31-year-old Constable from Atherton in Far North Queensland was one of two officers who have been subject of an internal investigation for allegedly taking the weapon from the station to the party earlier this month.

A police spokesman said he has been charged with one count of possession of a Category R weapon between 11-14 January.

He is due to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on February 9.

A 41-year-old Constable is also facing an investigation over the same incident.

"In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when an officer faces serious allegations of misconduct," a police spokesman said.

"This does not mean that the allegations against the officers have been substantiated."
