MEET Bill Bates.

The Cairns man has become Annastacia Palaszczuk's nemesis for the next state election, or, at least, his sentiment has.

Bates is putting his life as a self-funded retiree from the tropics on hold. He's hitting the road in his Great Wall X200 to cavort across regional Queensland. But Bates in no grey nomad. Rather, he's a one-man roadshow of rage, livid at do-gooders and tree-huggers, the gay lobby and bloody Brisbane-based politicians.

Behind his Chinese-made, four-wheel-drive, Bates will be towing a trailer bedecked with placards warning of the impending ruination of the regions and urging people to sign a petition to split Queensland in two.

Secession calls emanating from the north are, of course, nothing new.
