Police officer kicked in the head

A POLICE officer has been seriously injured after being allegedly kicked in the face while responding to a noise complaint in Townsville.

Police will allege officers were confronted by a number of people at the Karanya St property at Mount Louisa, while attending a noise complaint about 8.30am on Sunday.

As officers spoke with the property owner, a group of people began to push and crowd-in at police, with one man obstructing an officer, police will allege.

"As the officer attempted to arrest the man it will be alleged the officer ended up on the ground at which time he was kicked in the face," Queensland Police said in a statement.

"The group then fled the scene."

A 33-year-old male Senior Constable was taken to Townsville Hospital with serious facial injuries, including a broken nose, fractured cheek and a cut above his eye.

A 30-year-old Palm Island man was arrested at a Kirwan property at midday today.

The man was charged with grievous bodily harm and denied police bail.

He's expected to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday.

Investigations are continuing.
