Raceview man fined for drunken assault

A RACEVIEW dad, who drunkenly punched a man in the head, has been fined.

At Ipswich Magistrates Court Luke Andrew Boulton pleaded guilty to a drunk and disorderly charge.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Brad Dick said the 25-year-old had been drinking at the Racehorse Hotel, when he became involved in an altercation with some other patrons.

After security intervened, Boulton stood up and hit one of the men, who had been involved in the ruckus, in the face.

The incident took place about 2am on October 3. The victim did not file any assault charges.

Defence lawyer Cameron Hodges said his client had no criminal history and that his offending was "out of character".

Mr Hodges said Boulton had reacted in such a way because the victim had allegedly assaulted his client's friend at the venue.

He said Boulton was employed as a pipeliner, had a young child and was remorseful for his actions.

Magistrate Deborah Vasta told Boulton he was lucky to have been only charged with a liquor act offence.

He was fined $200 and no convictions were recorded.
