Racing to the finishing line after fruitful 2017
BARRIERS will fly open this afternoon at Bunya Park Racecourse for the Dalby and Northern Downs Jockey Club's annual Christmas races.
Club representative Courtney Geiger said the event gave the community a unique way to celebrate the year that was.
"It gives the local businesses a chance to host their end-of-year parties so we'll get people coming to the races who don't usually go, which is a great thing,” Mrs Geiger said.
"There'll be local businesses hosting their Christmas get-togethers, we'll have a jumping castle for the kids and the canteen will be operating all day.
"We've also got the Dalby leagues clubs' More Cups than Bart Cummings, which is the Dalby Diehards and Dalby Devils celebrating their awards and premierships won this season.”
Mrs Geiger said the meeting was significant for the race club, as it began its resurgence.
"We're in the process of opening up the new viewing deck, it won't be open on the day but people will be able to have a look at it,” she said.
"It's a great family day out, we're trying to build the club back up again after the grandstand burnt down and a few quite years.
"We've got TAB meetings back at the track so it's a great time to come and support local racing.”
General admission tickets for the meeting are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
The gates will open at noon.
