RASQ president John McDonald announces retirement
THE president of the Royal Agriculture Society of Queensland John McDonald announced his retirement today after 20 years on the society's board.
He has spent the past 16 years as chairman.
Mr McDonald was the second longest serving chairman in the 156-year history of the RASQ.
Shane Charles was elected unopposed to replace Mr McDonald at today's meeting. Mr Charles will become president and chairman.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland is the oldest show society in the state while the Toowoomba Royal Show is the longest running show in the state.
Over the past 16 years Mr McDonald has overseen substantial growth in the infrastructure of the Darling Downs' largest community asset which now generates in excess of $15 million in direct spending in the region from events held at the showgrounds.
