REVEALED: The Toowoomba residents with NDIS packages

MORE people in Toowoomba have their NDIS packages approved than in Brisbane.

About 1500 people in the Garden City and south-west Queensland have been ticked off for their plans with the National Disability Insurance Scheme, according to the latest statistics.

Five months after the federal program was rolled out across the region on January 1, the National Disability Insurance Agency has revealed region-specific figures.

Toowoomba has the second-highest number of approved participants in Queensland, just behind Townsville with 2484 people.

Brisbane has just 37 approvals, but that is because the scheme is not expected to be rolled out there until about 2019.

The news comes as the local area coordinator Carers Queensland launched its new office on Ruthven St in Toowoomba in March, with an official opening on June 5.

Carers Queensland president Jim Toohey said the organisation would hire 52 new staff by next month.

"We recently held our board meeting there and I said to the 40 or so new staff members already there that it was almost like seeing your baby in the nursery," he said.

"It was exciting to see the enthusiasm and everyone is so committed to making it great."

Mr Toohey said he was pleased to see Toowoomba reach the 1500-participant mark, which was one of Carers Queensland's initial goals.

"I am absolutely delighted - it was a very fast and streamlined process that the government wanted," he said.

"They wanted the services delivered and it was a stressful time but we delivered.

"(The 1500 mark) is meeting expectations - it was an ambitious target but an achievable one."

The public is invited to the launch of the Carers Queensland office at 632 Ruthven St on June 5 from 10am, which will be followed by a community Open Day.
