Roar plans to bolster squad with attacking imports

BRISBANE Roar coach John Aloisi is expected to bolster his side's attacking stocks with a marquee signing.

Aloisi said the club is closing in on two import attackers to round out the squad for the new season.

Recent off-season recruits Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Corey Gameiro were on deck when the Roar kicked off pre-season training Thursday morning and they are expected to be joined by two new faces soon.

Khalfallah and Gameiro are expected to be joined by a striker and a winger from overseas, with Aloisi confirming one player would fill the marquee position opened by Tommy Oar's departure to Cypriot giants APOEL.

Roar staff have been impressed by Gamerio's physical conditioning since joining the club.

Gameiro will be looking to get his career back on track after three knee reconstructions in four seasons.

"We did a little bit of testing the last couple of days and the medical staff were very surprised how good he's moving and how quick he still is,” Aloisi said.

"For me it's not even a risk because he's someone that has been talented, and has still got that talent.”

The news of more potential signing will be welcomed by Roar fans who said good-bye to Oar, Jamie Maclaren (SV Darmstadt), Brandon Borrello (Kaiserslautern) and Thomas Broich (released) in the off-season.

"We'll get a marquee. We're looking, there's quite a few names coming through and we're confident we'll be able to fill that (marquee) spot,” Aloisi said.

"We feel that if we bring the right people in, we'll have enough depth so that when we qualify for the Champions League, we'll have a lot of depth.”

Brisbane have also re-signed teenage defender and New Zealand international Dane Ingham.

The Roar will meet Melbourne Victory in the FFA Cup's round of 32 on August 9 at Perry Park.
