Roar wary of Victory's counter-attack

BRISBANE Roar coach John Aloisi has warned his side against a counter-attacking Melbourne Victory ahead of the mouth-watering A-League season opener at Suncorp Stadium tomorrow night.

Aloisi told reporters the Victory, which has quality attacking players such as Besart Berisha, James Troisi and Marco Rojas in its squad, is probably the best counter-attacking team in the competition and his side must be ready for that.

"We know they have changed their style a little from last year,” Aloisi said of this season's title favourites.

"They come out hard, so we have to match that too.

"It will be hard for the first part of the game but we are confident that we can match them and then we can hold on because we do play out games until the end.

"They are the best counter-attacking team I think so we have to be ready for that, but I think we will be.”

Aloisi said his players were ready for the season to get under way and said that new members of the squad such as Brett Holman and Thomas Kristensen, and Luke De Vere, who missed most of last season through injury, brought something extra to the team.

"We are always looking to improve,” he said.

"And when you bring in players you are looking to improve your squad and that makes competition for places and that's what we have done.

"Some of the players we have brought in are very attacking and we want to play that style of football we have played for a number of years now at Brisbane Roar.

"Hopefully we can get the results to go with that.”

New Spanish signing Manuel Arana will not play tomorrow night, with Aloisi saying he could still be four weeks away from playing.

Dimitri Petratos will also miss through injury after impressing the coach in pre-season.
