Rugby win in Osaka
TEMPERATURES may have been low but spirits were high when the Downs Rugby Union boys had their first win against Osaka Sangyo University in Japan this week.
Twenty-five players and eight officials from the Darling Downs representative side landed in Osaka last Friday for their two-match tour, which has been in the works for the past 12 months.
The Downs Rugby boys took out the 19-16 Osaka win on Saturday after a tough game, which Downs Rugby coach Nathan Bradley said the boys played well.
"All the guys were excited before the game, but also a little anxious, due to not knowing the opposition and also being a game overseas,” said Bradley.
"We'd only had two training runs and I thought our performance as a whole was of a great standard.
"Our ball handling was a little rusty, but you expect that for the first game in a long time,” he said.
The boys are now in Tokyo where they will play their second match of the tour against the Kanagawa Barbarians tomorrow.
Bradley said the entire group had a good feeling about the game in Tokyo, which he thinks will be of even better quality than the last game.
"The group has prepared really well and will be ready for what they throw at us,” said Bradley.
"It will be a very tough game, but we are excited,” he said.
