Thaiday plays downs fears of losing Corey Parker

BRISBANE teammates have played down concerns forward Corey Parker could be a late scratching from Saturday night's NRL qualifying home final against North Queensland after a hamstring twinge at training.

With injury clouds hovering over halfback Ben Hunt (back) and back-rower Alex Glenn (foot), who both trained on Wednesday, losing a player of Parker's experience and workload for such a huge game would be devastating.

"If you know Corey and you've ever played football with him, it takes a lot to stop him from going out onto that field," teammate Sam Thaiday said after Parker left training early and had his right hamstring packed in ice.

While there were no immediate fears he would miss the biggest game of season so far, Parker did cancel a trip to Sydney for an interview with Fox Sports so he could start around-the-clock treatment.

Glenn, who said the foot injury he picked up last month against South Sydney had responded to rest from a one-match suspension last week, was also confident Parker would take his place in the pack.

"Similar thing to me, it's just precautionary," the Kiwi international said.

Melbourne meanwhile has concerns over the health of skipper Cameron Smith who has been bed-ridden with a virus all week ahead of tomorrow night's qualifying final against minor premier, the Roosters.

Coach Craig Bellamy said his skipper, "looks like death warmed up to be quiet honest".
