Scammers steal $450,000 from QLD council

BRISBANE City Council has been defrauded out of $450,000 after scammers hit the local authority with fraudulent invoices pretending to be from legitimate contractors.

"I became aware of this on Friday, the CEO became aware of it late on Thursday," Brisbane Mayor Graham Quirk told the ABC.

"It's something I'm pretty angry about, it's a case of just over $450,000 that ratepayers have been robbed of.

"Through what appears to be a sophisticated and targeted scam."
