Seven year-old survives 6 days in bear infested woods

AFTER six days of searching, the seven-year-old Japanese boy left in a bear-inhabited forest by his parents as punishment has been found.

The boy was uninjured and in good health, several media agencies reported, but had no food when located about 7am local time yesterday.

He was found in a military base about 5km from where his parents made him get out of their car on the island of Hokkaido.

After initially telling police their son had disappeared while they were foraging for edible plants last Saturday, the parents admitted they had disciplined him for throwing stones.

They said when they returned to where they had dropped him off a few minutes earlier, he was gone.

The boy reportedly told police he took shelter in a hut on the military base on Saturday night.

Police said they were considering charging the parents with neglect.

The boy's father told TV Asahi he had apologised to his son as soon as they were reunited at a hospital, The Guardian reported.
