Severe storm warning issued for Darling Downs
A SEVERE storm warning has been issued for parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.
The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that as of 5pm a line of severe thunderstorms are moving eastwards over the far eastern Warrego, southern Central Highlands and the western Darling Downs districts.
These storms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Carnarvon National Park, Mantuan Downs, Goondiwindi, Miles, Chinchilla, Tara, Inglewood, Texas and Stanthorpe.
Roma recorded a wind gust of 81 km/h at 3:26PM.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should move your car under cover or away from trees, secure loose outdoor items and seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
They also advise people to avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm and to beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
The next warning is due to be issued by 8:00 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe), a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
