Shannon Boyd signed until end of the 2018 NRL season

CANBERRA coach Ricky Stuart has moved swiftly to ensure his pack still has some size and intimidation by signing young prop Shannon Boyd through to the end of the 2018 NRL season.

With veteran front-rower Dave Shillington heading to the Gold Coast next season, and big forward Dane Tilse also missing, Boyd has been presented with a great opportunity to cement his place in the Raiders' starting pack.

"I love Canberra. It's like a big country town and I didn't want to leave, so having the chance to sign up for another three years is awesome," Boyd said. "With Tilsey and Shillo no longer here at the club I know it will be up to me and the other props to step up next year.

"I'm really excited about the challenge."

At a strapping 124kg and 194cm, Boyd is in the Shillington mould and Canberra chief executive Don Furner said the 23-year-old would be the first on a long list of signings the club would announce in coming months.

"We're very excited about having Shannon commit to the club long-term and we're working on a number of other current players to keep what we believe is developing into a very high-standard NRL squad," Furner said.

Meanwhile, the Roosters have confirmed England coach Steve McNamara has re-signed as Trent Robinson's assistant at Bondi Junction until the end of the 2017 season.

McNamara is preparing England for a three-Test series against the Kiwis and has refused to comment on his future with last year's minor premiers.

However the club's chief executive, Brian Canavan, confirmed the deal had been done, leaving McNamara free to focus on the first Test this weekend.
