NEW South Wales has had more than its fair share of shark attacks in recent years.
There have been 211 shark encounters in NSW in the past 100 years, 49 of which have been fatal, 110 have involved injuries and 52 no major injuries.
Tadashi Nakahara was not so lucky. The Japanese national, 41, was killed when he was attacked by a four-metre shark at Ballina.
Also killed in another attack was Paul Wilcox. He had joked about being attacked by a shark.
In 2013, Zac Young, 18 was surfing with friends when he was killed at Coffs Harbour.
In 2008, Peter Edmonds was killed at Ballina. Peter, 16, of Wollongbar, died after being attacked at North Wall, Ballina.
