POLICE are investigating after a stolen car was found burnt out on a rural road after evading officers just hours earlier at the weekend.

An unmarked police car spotted a white Toyota Hilux speeding on the Warrego Hwy near Macalister about 4pm Friday.

Officers turned around and followed the car which reached speeds up to 145kmh in a 100kmh zone.

Despite police activating lights and sirens, the car failed to stop and fled the area before officers terminated the attempted intercept about 2km west of Macalister.

The same car was reported burnt out to police about midnight Saturday, with a witness telling authorities an unknown man was seen standing at the front of the car before it caught alight.

The car was destroyed in the blaze on Braemer Warra Rd, about 10km east of Kogan.

Officers from the unmarked police car reported the driver of the suspected stolen ute to be Caucasian in appearance, with a stubble beard.

The car fire is being treated as suspicious and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
