Dalby stores ready to open on Sunday

DALBY stores are only days away from opening their doors for Sunday trade.

Major supermarkets and retailers have announced they will trade for seven days after the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission granted an application to allow non-exempt stores to open.

The decision means stores like Woolworths, Coles, Big W and Target are permitted to trade from 10.30am to 6pm on Sunday.

Woolworths, Coles and Big W are the first major stores to make the move, with all open from 10.30am this coming Sunday, May 31.

According to its website, Target will wait a week and begin its Sunday trade on June 7.

More than 20 specialty stores in Dalby Shoppingworld will also open their doors this Sunday.

The application for Sunday trade was made by the National Retail Association, and opposed by Master Grocers Australia and the Queensland Retail Traders and Shopkeepers Association.

Western Downs Regional Council and the Dalby Chamber of Commerce also opposed the application.

Non-exempt stores will also be allowed to open on certain public holidays, from 8.30am to 5.30pm - excluding Good Friday, Anzac Day, Labour Day, and Christmas Day.

The order, which was delivered by the commission the end of last month, officially came into effect today.
