Rainfall of up to 75mm expected to drench Stanthorpe

WEATHER forecasters are predicting afternoon storms to hit across the Darling Downs after high temps during the day.

The storms are expected to first hit on Friday afternoon.

The storm cells are expected to move quickly, but we are being warned that those in their path can expect to cop 50-75mm of rain which means a chance of flooding.

The weather bureau is also warning us that there is a chance of large hail stones for some areas.

People are encouraged to pay attention to storm warnings and to take care when travelling.

In a classic case of bad timing the storms could cause havoc for the Stanthorpe Show, but organiser Andy Williams hopes we will be able to push through.

"We'll deal with it if and when it happens," he said.

"It depends what sort of elements we are dealing with."

If bad weather does hit, side show alley and other outdoor activities will need to be shut down.

So Stanthorpe, pack an umbrella just in case!
