$70,000 Flow Hive campaign ends with US$12.2m in pledges
A MONTH after launching a crowdfunding campaign to secure $70,000 to start manufacturing their revolutionary bee hives, the Flow Hive campaign ended with more than US$12.2 million (AU$15.8m) in pledges.
Most of the money is in the form of orders for frames or completed hives and the next phase of the operation will be to meet those orders from 36,530 people around the world.
Moulds have been made and manufacturing will take place in Brisbane.
A spokesperson for Flow Hive said early bird orders were on target to be made and packed in June, with the bulk of the orders through Indiegogo to be completed by the end of the year.
Father and son team Stuart and Cedar Anderson spent 10 years perfecting their design, which allows beekeepers to harvest honey without disturbing the bees.
The worldwide response to their invention has been overwhelming.
With the crowdfunding campaign now over, the Andersons will soon start taking orders at from their website, www.honeyflow.com.
