The bullockies' final frontier

A PROPERTY south of Cecil Plains is laying claim to a significant milestone in Australian history.

Ned Winter believes the last time a bullock team was used for the purpose of carting timber from the shrub was on his land back in 1993.

"We had two teams working here,” Mr Winter said.

"We had bullockies from all over the country including a guy from South Australia and one from Western Australia.

"They were pulling logs out of the scrub like they would have done years ago.”

Mr Winter added one of the teams also had national notoriety.

"One of those teams was owned by Fergus Campbell, and it took part in the film We of the Never Never (1982).

"Fergus took them all the way up to the Northern Territory some years before he came here to work up there.”
