Toowoomba girls lose sudden-death cook-off to MKR mates
SHERI Eddington and Emilie Biggar's time on My Kitchen Rules came to a bittersweet end last night.
The good mates, who grew up in Toowoomba, were up against friends Eva and Debra in their first sudden-death cook-off.
"We were so close with them," Ms Eddington told APN.
"They were just massive competition, but of course we're still friends now. It's just a game and competition at the end of the day and we're happy at how far we got. We're proud of ourselves."
Ms Biggar, 24, said she is happy with the way her hearing impairment has been portrayed on the reality cooking show.
"They put a few bits in there where I was not hearing my phone or just listening to music and that really showed what happens to me every day," she said.
"I'm really happy with the way Channel 7 has brought up my disability. There have been a few wars on Facebook about people calling me the 'deaf contestant', which I take no offence to."
The "soul sisters" won't be opening up their own restaurant any time soon but they do want to use their reality TV fame for a good cause.
"I want to get into anti-bullying and mental health awareness, that's my goal for 2015," Ms Eddington said.
"I want to get involved with schools and educate people on the differences between individuals. I want to make people celebrate the differences that we all have.
"Hopefully we can use our My Kitchen Rules fame for a good cause."
Ms Biggar has school visits lined up in Melbourne next week to educate students on people living with disabilities. She plans to do the same thing when she visits Toowoomba next month.
"Being hearing impaired is a huge part of my life," she said.
"I want to have a chat to the students to let them know about growing up with a disability and what it's like growing up being different."
The two women, whose passion for cooking is inspired by their grandmothers, will continue to support mates Eva and Debra in their hopes of winning the show's $250,000 grand prize.
"My Nan said to me 'oh I don't want to watch the show anymore now that you're not on it' so we'll have to convince her to support Eva and Debra," Ms Eddington said.
Mount Isa's Jac and Shaz and Brisbane's Rob and Dave are the remaining teams representing Queensland.
