Top three going head to head

THE world's top three players will bring some sparkling form into the Memorial tournament in Dublin, Ohio, starting tomorrow morning (AEST).

World No.1 Jason Day had a week off after taking his third PGA Tour victory of the season at TPC Sawgrass in the Players Championship, while Jordan Spieth, ranked second in the world, won the Colonial tournament last week.

Rory McIlroy can also claim to be in top form after winning last time out at the Irish Open 10 days ago.

The big three will join some of the best players in the world at the prestigious event held by 18-time major tournament winner Jack Nicklaus.

Seven of the top 10 will take on the daunting Muirfield Village course, with Day, who lives in Ohio, desperate to improve on what he has done previously on the difficult layout.

"This has been a tough tournament for me," the Aussie said.

"My best finish is tied for 27th or something like that, which is horrific.

"But I'm looking to change that this week.

"I feel good about my game, and I feel good about the preparation going into this week ... coming in with a little bit of confidence, which is nice."

Sweden's David Lingmerth will defend the crown he won last year following a playoff with Englishman Justin Rose.
