A VIDEO showing a high-speed train smashing into the side of a semi-trailer is going viral six months after it was first filmed.

In the footage -- dated July 22, 2015 -- shows the truck passing through boom gates and flashing lights but is then blocked in from the other side.

The truck edges forward slightly before a speeding train runs through the trailer and spins the driver's cabin around.

The video has been viewed more than 1.3 million times on Facebook group "Badass Vines" with the caption "ohh no!"

It has been shared 38,000 times and earned more than 1000 comments.

Few of those who have watched, liked and shared the video may be aware of the full context of the incident.

It is known as the 2015 Studénka train crash which killed three people, injured 17 and ruined the life of the driver.

The train was travelling through Studénka in the Czech Republic when the truck crossed into its path.

The driver is thought to have been taking a longer route to his destination by taking back roads in an effort to avoid tolls.

The boom gates are designed so that even a small vehicle can break through them, which triggers a warning to the train.

However, the truck driver moved forward only far enough so his cabin was not in the path of the train.

The train struck the truck at 142kmh.

SIx people standing at a nearby station were injured by the flying debris caused by the crash.

Two passengers in the front of the train were killed instantly. A third passenger elsewhere on the train was also killed.

The driver lost his leg and injuries to his psine as three tons of metal sheets -- being carried by the truck -- smashed into the driver's cabin.

Another 12 people were injured on the train.

The truck driver was completely unharmed, but has been charged with public endangerment and now faces up to 10 years in prison.

The incident is believed to have cost AUD$9 million worth of damage.
