Truck with cyclone relief goods rolls
THERE were wild scenes on the Warrego Hwy, as a truck that was carrying supplies destined for the cyclone relief rolled off the side of the road outside Dalby on Wednesday night.
The DD Porters Transport truck was headed west bound when it came into trouble about 6km outside of Dalby at around 9.15pm.
The truck, driven by a 53-year-old man from Cambooya, and was bound for Townsville in the wake of Cyclone Debbie.
DD Porter Transport owner Derek Porter said the truck was carrying foods for cyclone relief and was dropping off the load at a Townsville Woolworths before it was sent to the affected regions.
Senior Constable Dan O'Hara, who was at the scene, said emergency services had secured the vehicle and attended to the driver.
"The driver was driving the vehicle straight ahead and there is a possibility the vehicle has veered to the left," Snr Const O'Hara said.
"As the driver attempted to regain control of the vehicle, it has come into contact with soft soil on the side of the road, causing it to roll down into the table drain.
"The driver has only sustained minor injuries and was the sole occupant of the vehicle."
The rear trailer remained upright during the incident while the front and middle trailers tipped.
Mr Porter said while this was an unfortunate accident, it could have been a lot worse.
"He (the driver) has a few cuts but it is just one of those things that happens and this is the best outcome we could have in this situation."
