Truss tipped as only leader to go down with odds on Barnaby
DEPUTY Prime Minister Warren Truss's odds to be the next leader to stand down have been slashed with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au.
Barnaby Joyce is now odds-on to be the next National Party leader.
Truss has shortened from $1.50 into $1.35, with punters predicting an announcement regarding his future to come sooner rather than later.
Bill Shorten has drifted from $2.50 out to $3.10 in the Next Leader To Go market, with more than 70 per cent of the money predicting Truss will go before Shorten.
Joyce has been crunched from $2.20 into $1.80 to replace Truss as National Party leader, with Wagga Wagga-based MP Michael McCormack priced at $3.00.
Victorian National Darren Chester, a contender for the Deputy Leader role, has drifted from $5.00 out to $7.50 to replace Truss, with Luke Hartsuyker out from $8.00 to $11.
Sportsbet's Ben Bulmer said Warren Truss was the only one punters want in the Next Leader To Go market.
"All the bets coming in so far this year predicting his retirement is imminent. Barnaby Joyce is odds-on to replace Truss, with punters telling us he is a shoe-in to become Australia's next Deputy Prime Minister," Ben said.
